Sakya Monastery's Annual Campout

Sakya Monastery will be holding its annual campout the weekend of August 20-23 at Gold Basin campground. It's a wonderful spot so we hope to see you there!

Here are the details:
WHERE: Gold Basin Campground - SITE A
(Mt Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest)

WHEN: The site is reserved from 2:00 pm, Friday, August 20th until 1:00 pm, Monday, August 23rd.

WHO: All Sakya Monastery members, friends and their families

HOW: Please RSVP by August 13th as to how many people in your family are attending, by contacting the Monastery office at Monastery@Sakya.org. To participate in shared meals please provide the following payment with your RSVP, $10/day for adults and children over the age of 10. Children under the age of 10 are free.

DIRECTIONS: From Seattle, Washington, go north on I-5 to Everett. Take exit 194 onto Hwy 2. Head north at Hwy 204 toward Lake Stevens. Turn north on Hwy 9. Turn east on Hwy 92 to Granite Falls. The campground is located 13.5 miles east of Granite Falls.

H.H. the Dalai Lama's Birthday Celebration

H.H. J.D. Sakya and members of Sakya Monastery and the Tibetan Association of Washington cordially invite you to His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama's birthday celebration. A traditional service will be held which includes mandala offerings and long life prayers.

This is the celebration of the birth of the spiritual and temporal leader of Tibet who is recognized as an emanation of the Bodhisattva of Compassion, known in Tibetan as Chenrezi. Through the concerted efforts of the Tibetan community and its friends, H.H. Dalai Lama's birthday is now also known as World Tibet Day.

We'll enjoy tea, long life rice and birthday cake at the end of the ceremony.

Dzogchen Teaching

Dzogchen, or "Great Perfection", is a central teaching of the Nyingma School also practiced by the Rime (non-sectarian) Tibetan Buddhist sect.

H.E. Kathog Rigzin Chenpo Rinpoche is joining us to share his profound wisdom and knowledge of the Dharma. He is a renowned master of the Dzogchen Teachings, the central teachings of the Nyingma Tradition of Tibetan Buddhism. Kathog Rinpoche has authored over 20 books including the biographies of his masters. He is the founder and leader of the Kathog Rigzin Chenpo Dharma Association in Taichung, Taiwan, with branches in France and Singapore.

Padmasambhava Initiation

Padmasambhava is the Indian Yogi who subdued the demons of Tibet so that the Buddha Dharma could flourish. He is considered the 2nd Buddha. The Padmasambhava Initiation includes Tsok (food) offerings. Please bring food items like: fruit, baked goods, meat, and/or amrita(beer), etc.
