Mrs. Vidya Gauci (vidyagauci@cox.net)

We are very happy to announce that Lama Dagmola Sakya will once again be giving special teachings in Santa Barbara. May being the special month honoring Lord Buddha’s birth, enlightenment and parinirvana, Dagmola will be explaining the life and teachings of Lord Buddha. On Sunday she will give us teachings on the true meaning of taking refuge, and at the end of the morning session, there will be a refuge ceremony for those who wish to formally take refuge, or for those who simply wish to renew their commitment to a dharma path. On Sunday afternoon, Dagmola will bless us with a special fire ceremony to purify and remove obstacles in our life and on our spiritual path.

H.E. Dagmo Jamyang Sakya was born in Kham, East Tibet, and was trained in Buddhist practice from an early age by her revered uncle, Dezhung Rinpoche. While living in Tibet, she received initiations and teachings from all four sects of Tibetan Buddhism, and was married to one of the head Lamas of the Sakya Order of Tibetan Buddhism. Together with her husband, H.H. Jigdal Dagchen Sakya Rinpoche, she has been leading the Sakya Monastery of Tibetan Buddhism in Seattle, WA since the 1960’s.

Dagmola has become a revered teacher, one of a handful of Tibetan women teachers living in the West, though she teaches all over the world. Her mind-stream has ripened through extensive teachings, retreats and practice. She is gracious, charming and profound, speaks English, and is very approachable. We are privileged to have her bless us with these special teachings.

Lama Dagmola is one of Dr. Alan Wallace’s senior Tibetan Buddhist teachers. Alan Wallace is the founder and president of SBI, the Santa Barbara Institute for Consciousness Studies. Their students, Vidya Gauci, James Elliott, and Sangay Wangmo, are hosting this special event.

DIRECTIONS:  Exit off the 101 at Winchester Canyon, and make an immediate left at the gas station onto Calle Real which parallels the 101N. Go up several blocks and make a right onto Vereda Leyenda where you will see the adobe sign “Rancho Embarcadero.” Midway up the block is #224, an historic Spanish adobe building. There is a small adjacent parking lot to EMID, and lots of street parking on the right hand side.
Travel tip: do NOT follow the directions given by MapQuest; they will not lead you to Rancho Embarcadero.

LUNCH: You are welcome to bring a sack lunch and picnic in the adjacent park or there are a variety of restaurants at the nearby Costco Shopping Center off the Glen Annie exit. Tea and light snacks will be available, as well as chair seating.
