We are very happy to announce that H.E. Dagmo Jamyang Sakya (aka Dagmola) will once again be giving special teachings in Santa Barbara in the New Year, January 2012. Dr. Alan Wallace has requested Her Eminence to expound the classic Sakya treatise known as “Parting from the Four Desires.” Additionally, Her Eminence will be bestowing Chenrezi Initiation. Also known as Avalokitesvara, Chenrezi is a principal beloved deity of Tibet and Mahayana Buddhism. Chenrezi is revered as the embodiment of compassion, and His Holiness the Dalai Lama, is an emanation of Chenrezi.
H.E. Dagmo Jamyang Sakya was born in Kham, East Tibet, and was trained in Buddhist practice from an early age by her revered uncle, Dezhung Rinpoche. While living in Tibet, she received initiations and teachings from all four sects of Tibetan Buddhism, and was married to one of the head Lamas of the Sakya Order of Tibetan Buddhism. Together with her husband, H.H. Jigdal Dagchen Sakya Rinpoche, she has been leading the Sakya Monastery of Tibetan Buddhism in Seattle, WA, since the 1970’s.
Her Eminence is a revered teacher. One of a handful of Tibetan women teachers living in the West, she teaches in many parts of the world. Her mind-stream has ripened through extensive teachings, retreats and practice. She is gracious, charming and profound. She speaks English, and is very approachable. We are privileged to have her bless us with these special teachings.
Her Eminence is one of Dr. Alan Wallace’s senior Tibetan Buddhist teachers. Alan Wallace is the founder and president of the Santa Barbara Institute for Consciousness Studies. Their students, Vidya Gauci, James Elliott and Sangay Wangmo are hosting this event. We are pleased to announce that Dr. Wallace plans to attend this special weekend with his revered Teacher, H.E. Dagmo Jamyang Sakya.
