Avalokiteshvara is the embodiment of all the Buddhas’ great compassion, referred to by Tibetans as Chenrezi, their patron Bodhisattva. The meditations of Chenrezi are also the central practice of Sakya Monastery. Of the numerous forms in which he manifests, the special aspect with a thousand arms (Mahakarunika Sahasrabhuja) is very powerful for purifying illness, negativities and obscurations, and awakening love and understanding in the heart.
Most auspiciously, His Holiness is bestowing the empowerment of the lineage that comes from Bhikshuni Shrimati (Tib. Gelongma Palmo), a renowned princess from ancient Oddiyana who gave up her royal privileges to become a fully ordained Buddhist nun. She attained miraculous healing through the fasting rituals of Nyung Nes and practice of Chenrezi, who appeared to her in a pure vision with a thousand arms of dynamic compassion and a thousand eyes of omniscient wisdom. Obtaining this initiation from such a great master is not only the gateway to the purifying practice of Nyung Nes, but the entry-point to discovering the same liberating wisdom and compassion in our hearts.
His Holiness Sakya Trizin is the 41st head of the Sakya Order of Tibetan Buddhism, and has been the supreme head of its many disciples for over fifty years. His Holiness is a biological descendent of the great masters who founded the order in 1073 and is considered to be an emanation of Manjushri.
He has been praised by His Holiness the Dalai Lama as ‘King of Vajrayana practitioners,’ and is renowned throughout the world for the brilliance and clarity of his teachings and his fluency and precise command of English.
Receiving teachings directly from His Holiness carries a special lineage of blessings from the founders of the Sakya Order, as well as from Manjushri himself.
