Vipassana Meditation, part 2
Lecturer: Venerable Lekshay Sangpo
Wednesday, September 21, 2011
Length: 1:31:58
This is a Vipassana class for beginners and current practitioners. There will be instructions and a short talk before meditating. Questions and discussion will follow.
In Vipassana, the object of meditation is within oneself: it is the breath. With daily meditation (sits), one gradually is more and more in the moment. There is no space for thoughts to arise if one has single pointed focus on one’s breath. Being so perfectly in the moment (the breath) a new peacefulness and joy arises. This state can be helpful on the journey of understanding emptiness.
Ven. Lekshay recommends reading Zen Mind, Beginners Mind by Shunryu Suzuki, available in the Dharma Shop.
Venerable Lekshay Sangpo studied Zen Buddhism for 20 years. He saw the Dalai Lama in Seattle in 1993 and became a Tibetan Buddhist after finding Dagchen Rinpoche in 1994. He has been a student of H.H. ever since. He received his getsul (novice) vows in 2001 and his gelung (Bhikshu) vows in 2004, both from H.E. Chogye Trichen Rinpoche in Nepal. He has been living and teaching monks at Tharlam Monastery in Nepal five to six months every year since 2000. He has been able to receive many teachings from all the high Sakya lamas during the past 10 years.
