Bestowed by H.E. Sakya Khondung Avikrita Rinpoche
Sakya Monastery of Tibetan Buddhism
Saturday and Sunday, February 10-11, 2018
In Vajrayana Buddhism, practitioners use a diversity of skillful methods to accomplish what are known as the “four awakening activities”. These activities are not the ordinary actions of karma but the extraordinary expressions of the Buddha’s wisdom and compassion that bring ultimate benefit to the world.
In February 2018, we are pleased to announce that our Head Lama, H.E. Avikrita Rinpoche, will bestow four very special initiations and teachings related to the four awakening activities of pacifying, enriching, magnetizing, and eliminating. Session 1 – The Bodhisattva Vow
Saturday, February 10, 10am-12pm – Opening Ceremony
A Bodhisattva is one who has gone for refuge in the Mahayana tradition and avows to cross the ten levels to reach the stage of a Buddha by carrying out the four awakening activities for the benefit of all sentient beings. The foundation for achieving that goal is to formally take the Bodhisattva vow. In this beautiful traditional ceremony, Avikrita Vajra Rinpoche will confer the vow and explain its profound significance according to the classic teachings of the Sakya Masters.
Prerequisites: For those who have received the refuge vow.
Commitment: To keep the Bodhisattva vow.
Traditional offerings of flowers, incense, etc., may be offered by 9:30 am for the monks to arrange on the shrine before the ceremony begins.
Session 2 – The Initiation of Parnashavari
Saturday, February 10, 2pm-3pm – Pacifying
The aim of the awakening activity of pacifying is to cure the illnesses and clear the negative energy of afflictive emotions and environmental disturbances that can hinder Dharma practice. Of the many pacifying practices that the Buddha taught, the foremost healing method is the practice of the leaf-clad goddess of the wilderness, Parnashavari.
Avikrita Vajra Rinpoche will be bestow the initiation that includes a powerful healing ritual and will also give the transmission for the traditional Sakya healing practices based on Parnashavari.
Prerequisites: For those who have received the refuge vow and have aspiring bodhicitta; only vegetarian foods may be consumed prior to the initiation.

The aim of the awakening activity of enriching is to increase the merits, lifespan and resources needed to develop Dharma practice. Of the many enriching practices that the Buddha taught, the foremost enriching method is the practice of the golden goddess who dispels all deprivation, Vasudhara.
Avikrita Vajra Rinpoche will bestow the uncommon initiation that includes a transmission for making the traditional water-offering practice for abundance and will also give the transmission for classic Sakya practices based on Vasudhara.
