Eons ago, a bodhisattva earned the name White Lotus of Compassion because he embraced our world and aspired to teach sentient beings during this age of strife. After diligently practicing on the path and serving countless buddhas for many lifetimes, that bodhisattva was born in Lumbini, Nepal, as Prince Siddhartha Gautama of the Shakya royal family. He left royal life to seek the answer to suffering and, upon attaining enlightenment, became known as Buddha Shakyamuni.
This lecture will discuss the Buddha’s 12 sublime deeds, from the perspective of the Mahayana sutras and commentaries. It will conclude with describing how to cultivate confidence in the Mahayana, the bodhisattva path that leads to complete enlightenment just like Buddha Shakyamuni.
