This teaching of the Four Kayas is from the class of higher tantras. The Kaya are holy emanation bodies or ways of manifesting, sometimes called modes of being, including Dharmakaya, Sambhogakaya, Nirmanakaya, and Rupakaya.
As an appearance of causes and results along the 5 paths and ten bhumis, in the beginning you receive empowerment, commentary, and transmission–mainly these kayas are a result of the practices’ manifestations of the method leading to a subsequent state of enlightenment such as the Wisdom Body or Emanation Body.
These states are attainable in this very life through intensive retreat and meditation practices.
