Ven. Lama Tashi was born in 1980. At age 9, Lama Tashi joined Sakya Monastery in India, where he learned the major texts, rituals, chants and practices of the Sakya Lineage of Tibetan Buddhism. He received both the novice and full ordination vows from his root Guru, H.E. Luding Khen Chen. In 1994, he enrolled in the Sakya Institute in Gorkhuwala. He studied Buddhist philosophy from various distinguished teachers. He completed his Shastri Degree (BA Degree) in 2001. He has received initiations and education from eminent Buddhist teachers: H.H. the Dalai Lama, H.H. Sakya Trichen, H.H. Dagchen Dorje Chang (1926-2016), H.E. Khen Chen Appey (1926-2010), H.E. Luding Khen Chen (1931-2022) and others. In 2002, H.H. Dagchen Dorje Chan recognized Lama Tashi’s achievements and appointed him to teach philosophy, ritual and retreat practices to his grandson, H.E. Avikrita V. Rinpoche, who would become a future Trizin of the Sakya sect. Lama Tashi held that position until coming to Sakya Monastery, Seattle in 2018. At Sakya Monastery, Lama Tashi is fulfilling the role of a Cho Pon: ritual master, shrine setup, and overall upkeep and security of the Monastery.
